Equine Shiatsu & Reiki for Animals

Erika Sundt is a fully qualified and insured practitioner in Equine Shiatsu, as well as Reiki for Animals and Humans.

In this article, Erika outlines the health benefits of both Shiatsu and Reiki.

What is Equine Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing art that humans have been benefiting from for thousands of years; however, it is only recently that the science behind the art has been applied to horses. Shiatsu is often described as acupuncture without the needles, it is acupressure. During a treatment I use certain meridians and acupressure points to move stagnant Chi around the body.

Shiatsu can help with a wide range of conditions – from specific injuries to more general symptoms of poor health, both mental and physical.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle hands-on healing art that restores spiritual equilibrium and activates the body's own natural ability to heal itself. Like Shiatsu, it involves influencing and strengthening a person’s or animal's life force.

These therapies can be used to maintain the health of you and your animal and help to prevent injuries from occurring.

I believe it is very important to treat both animal and owner because animals are very sensitive and can pick up on our problems and turn them into their own.

Testimonial

“I find Shiatsu a great way of keeping my horse sound mentally and physically. I have used it alongside a careful exercise regime whilst bringing my horse back into work, following a severe sprain injury. It has certainly helped her on the road to recovery, as all the tension that had built up in her muscles whilst she was healing was gradually dispersed.

I really like the fact that it is a gentle treatment which does not involve pulling the joints around in alarming ways, yet you still get impressive results. I have seen an improved performance whilst schooling, where she now finds it easier to work into an outline and really can use all her muscles effectively. She has also been happier to have rugs and saddles put on when otherwise she seemed quite sore. As an added bonus, it serves as a relaxing treatment for her which she definitely deserves.”
